BEFORE YOU START

Read the fitting instructions below fully to familiarise yourself with the steps involved.

Decide upon the height and location of your bell fittings (both internal and external).

Ensure there are no hidden service pipes or cables where you intend drilling.

PLEASE NOTE: The screws and wall plugs supplied are only suitable for use in solid walls. If fitting to other types of wall please source suitable fixings from your local hardware store.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1.  Place the pull onto a flat surface and then rotate the rod so that the words on the handle are parallel to the surface and facing towards you. Now place a small mark on the rod, immediately above and below the rod guides on bracket (A) using a felt tip pen – see Fig 1. (N.B. this will assist you in re-locating the locking collar grub screw later on).

STEP 2. Now position the pull on the wall where you wish to locate it and mark the position of the 4 holes in bracket (A), ensuring that the top and bottom holes are vertical to one another. Drill these holes using an 8mm drill bit and insert the raw plugs provided.

STEP 3. Secure the pull temporarily to the wall, via the two holes in the cross arm of bracket (A) using the screws provided.

STEP 4. Leaving a gap of 40mm between the top of this bracket and the bottom of a blanking pulley, position the pulley so that the hole in its centre is both above the pulley wheel and in line with the hole in the top of the nut on the pull rod – see Fig 3. Now, mark the position of the three fixing holes together with the middle hole. Place this pulley to one side.

STEP 5. Position bracket (B) approximately 50mm above the square shoulder of the bell pull handle and mark the location of the 2 fixing holes. See Fig 2. Now unscrew bracket (A) from the wall.

STEP 6. Drill the hole you have marked on the wall for the centre of the blanking pulley using a 12mm drill bit (N.B. This hole is for the brass tube which acts as a liner against dust and helps protect the bell cord.)

STEP 7. Drill the remaining 5 fixing holes (3 for the pulley and 2 for bracket B) using an 8mm drill bit and insert raw plugs into these holes.

STEP 8. Secure the blanking pulley to the outside wall using the screws supplied.

STEP 9. Remove the nut from the top of the rod and set to one side. Now remove bracket (A) from the rod assembly to make securing it to the wall easier. To do this use the allen key (supplied) to unscrew the locking grub screw in the retaining collar immediately above the spring – see Fig 1A.

STEP 10. Secure bracket (A) to the wall using the screws supplied. Now slide the rod back through the guides in bracket (A) making sure that you incorporate both the spring and retaining collar. Use the felt tipped marks on the rod to help re-locate the locking grub screw on the retaining collar. (IMPORTANT: This grub screw must be screwed down fully into the locating hole in the rod.  When fitted correctly this grub screw will sit almost flush with the outside of the collar.) When the above is complete screw the nut back onto the top of the rod.

STEP 11. Secure bracket (B) to the wall using the screw supplied. Towards the back of bracket (B) you will find a grub screw - see Fig 2A. (N.B. This screw runs in a slotted keyway and ensures that the handle remains parallel to the wall at all times.) Make sure this grub screw is not too tight and that rod moves freely, up and down, when pulled.

STEP 12. From inside the house slide the copper tube (supplied) into the 12mm hole drilled in the brick work. Push this hard up against the blanking pulley. Mark where the tube enters the inside wall. Remove the tube and cut it to length. Replace the tube ensuring that it sits flush with the inside wall and does not protrude.

STEP 13. Unscrew the nut from the top of the pull. Now tie a double knot in your pull cord (not supplied with this pull) and thread it through the hole in the top of the nut. Test to see that knot is secure when the cord is pulled. Screw the nut back onto the pull.

STEP 14. Thread the cord through the hole in the blanking pulley (making sure that it runs both inside the V of the pulley wheel and through the brass tube inside the wall) until it appears on the inside of the house. From inside the house, pull the cord tight and then thread it through the hole in the remaining blanking pulley. You must now decide in which direction the cord needs to run. Rotate the pulley accordingly and then mark the three holes that will secure it in position. Drill these holes and insert the raw plugs provided. Re-thread the cord through the pulley and then secure the pulley using the screws provided. Secure the cord to your bell.
