Here at UKAA we love to buy good items of taxidermy and are always on the hunt for something unusual and different.
Taxidermy is the art of mounting the skins of animals and skeletons for display and was very popular in the Victorian era.
Leading Victorian taxidermists include J Copper, L W Barlett, T E Gunn and E F Spicer to name just a few.
All vertebrate species of dead animal can be mounted including birds, amphibians and reptiles and are often displayed in museums or as hunting trophies.
Cased fish and mounted deer heads and antlers were also real favorites.
Exciting news at UKAA, we have managed to source the best piece of Victorian taxidermy that we have ever seen. His name is ‘Boris’ and he is a male Victorian Polar Bear.
Pictured below is Boris our Victorian taxidermy Polar Bear or Ursius maritimus.

A Thermostatic radiator valve or TRV is a self regulating valve that can be fitted to any reproduction or reclaimed cast iron radiators, they can also be used on modern contemporary steel radiators.
The TRV controls the temperature of the room by changing the flow of the hot water to the radiator, the thermostatic valve senses the temperature of the room around them to alter the flow.
The setting for the TRV can be different in each room, once set you can just leave the TRV to get on with there job.
As TRV valves work by sensing the temperature of the room it is important to ensure that the valve is not covered in material such as curtains.
With any new heating system to comply with current building regulations, TRV's should be fitted to all radiators except in the room where the room thermostat is situated.
At UKAA we have a large selection of thermostatic radiator valves in a range of finishes such as satin nickel, chrome, brass, old English brass, Pewter, antique copper and antique brass.
The image below (From left to right) is of the Antique Brass Crocus, the Bentley Brass and the Faringdon Old English Brass Thermostatic TRV Valves.

At UKAA we have a large section of reclaimed original cast iron baths and also our UKAA bathroom range which has a variety of new traditional Victorian style roll top and slipper cast iron baths.
Our enamel bath styles include the high slipper, roll top, double slipper and single slipper cast iron baths with feet, the outside of the baths can be painted in a colour of your choice such as Farrow and Ball or Dulux.
These baths are ideal to use in a traditional period home or as an antique feature in a modern property.
We also have available a selection of free standing bath taps and shower mixers which are ideal to use with any cast iron bath.
Information Below on Fitting Cast Iron Bath Feet
When purchasing a new cast iron bath from our UKAA bathroom range your bath will be delivered on a pallet, the cast iron bath feet will come boxed separately on the pallet.
Firstly remove the packaging from the bath and take the boxed feet off the pallet, then take your bath into the bathroom.
The image below is of the cast iron bath on the pallet after the wrapping has been removed.
The feet are individually boxed with numbers that correlates to the numbers on the bottom of the bath. We then arranged the feet around the bath next to the correct number (Written on the box).
Pictured below are the boxes and feet arranged around the bath.
Gently place the bath upside down on the floor using a soft blanket to protect the enamel, we have used a blanket fr this or a duvet would work just as well.
For each foot you will need a bolt, flat washer, spring washer and a rubber wedge (These are included and will be inside packaging).
Next attach each foot individually to the bath in the following order:
1. Bolt
2. Rubber wedge
3. Cast Iron bath foot
4. The flat washer
5. The spring washer
6. The nut
7. Hand tighten.
The picture below is of the cast iron bath with two of the claw feet fitted.
Move the bath foot evenly around the cast iron bath to achieve the best fit, now you can tighten the nut.
Once all four feet are attached turn the bath over and move to your location. When in your desired position use the height adjusters on the feet to get your bath level.
Pictured below is of the reproduction cast iron bath in its final location.
For further information on our new and reclaimed cast iron baths with feet please call the team on 01543 222923 or email us at info@ukaa.com

Our most popular radiator valves for cast iron radiators are the thermostatic valves. A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is a self regulating valve that is fitted to the radiator to control the temperature of the room by changing the flow of the hot water that enters the radiator.
The image below is of Danielle with selection of our thermostatic radiator valves for cast iron radiators.
Manual radiator valves have no thermostatic control, the temperature of the radiator is controlled by the central heating system and will be off or on only.

The boxes are sympathetically refurbished to keep as much of their original character as possible.
The steps below are of the main stages of refurbishment of an Edward VII Original Royal Mail Post Box, the box is Circa 1901 and we have tried to keep as many original features as possible, such as the original lock, cage and keys.

Step 1, We initially use the grinder with a wire brush tool to remove any loose paint or rust on the outside of the Royal Mail Post Box while keeping as much character and original paint as possible. The inside of the box is then cleaned.
Pictured below is of the Royal Mail Post Box once all the loose original paint has been removed.
Step 2, The outside of the post box is painted in a coat of red oxide primer and then receives a coat of red undercoat.

The image below is of the inside of the Royal Mail Post Box once we have undercoated and applied a top coat.
