• A fantastic example of a J. W. Benson of Ludgate Hill, London turret clock.
• It has a ratchet strike which would have struck the hours on a tenor bell and ‘ting-tang’ quarters on different bells.
• The clock is driven by three weights, the smallest being the ‘going weight’ which drives the timekeeping part of the mechanism and the hands, then the ‘hour weight’ which operated the hammer to strike the hours, the heaviest of the three is the ‘quarters weight’ which operated the two ‘ting-tang’ hammers every quarter of an hour.
• Original pendulum, its four large weights, winding crank, cable pulleys and the bevel drive splitting the main drive out to the four pairs of hands.
• Lovely makers plaques to this.
• Also has 4 x set of hands.
• Reclaimed from a property in Kent.
• This measures: 44 ½" Long x 24" Tall x 43" Deep (max).
• The pendulum measures: 6ft 6".
• Minute Hand 22" Long and Hour Hand 14 ½" Long.
• Circa 1889.
