- Antique Victorian Stoneware Garden Seat
Made by William Tickle
- Purchased as it is from a private property in East Anglia
- The measurements are 41" wide x 27" deep x 4ft tall
- This is a very rare and unique item
- The seat is very comfortable
- The proportions are excellent
- This is fully stamped with the makers details - W Tickle and Son, Fire Clay Works Maryport.
- The seat was made to commemorate the marriage of Edward VII to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863. The prince of Wales' feathers and the footrests are Oatmeal glazed, the AA central section is finished in a dark glaze.
- The seat was in the possesion of the same family since soon after the time of the purchase of Sandringham for the newly married couple in 1862. The curator at Sandringham has no records of this or others. Little seems to be known about Tickle and Co of Maryport and what prompted the making of the seat.
- There are two old bits of damage on the two shoulders of the seat - but this only adds to it's character
