- Rowland Ward Antique Victorian Taxidermy Polar Bear
- This male Polar Bear is a fantastic rare specimen in excellent order throughout and one of the finest examples of his type.
- He comes complete with certificate of inspection from D.E.F.R.A.
- He is exactly what we would expect to see of an original stuffed Victorian Polar Bear. He is constructed using woodwool bound with string, primitive hand blown glass eyes, handmade nuts fixing him to the base.
- The Oak base and the Bear holding a tray are both signatures of the top maker - Rowland Ward.
- He was purchased from a private property in Norfolk.
- From the floor to the top of his head the total height is 2.5 meters (8ft 3" tall).
- The Oak base measures: 38" Wide.
- He has been inspected and approved by one of the leading taxidermists in the UK.
- This polar bear is almost certain to have been by Rowland Ward (1848–1912) he was a British taxidermist and founder of the firm Rowland Ward Limited of Piccadilly, London. The company specialised in and was renowned for its taxidermy work on birds and big-game trophies. James Rowland Ward was the best taxidermy of his time and Boris has all the hall marks and quality of his work. Boris is photographed of him holding a Victorian oil lamp and his smaller companion in the photograph is holding a tray which is typical of James Rowland Wards work. Both polar bears are mounted on the same oak plinth which is a superb tree trunk.
- We have a photo of him taken during the 1950's with an oil lamp in his paw, stood next to another smaller Polar Bear.
