- Antique Church Carved Oak Eagle Lectern With Separate Plinth
- This is a truly gorgeous example of an Oak Church Eagle Lectern with separate standing plinth made to a high standard with great detailing.
- Sat on a central column with 3 branched supports with linen fold design panelling, the eagle is nicely detailed with the wings, feathers and feet.
- The Church lectern measures: 68 ½" Tall x 22 ½" Wing Span (max) x 21" Diameter Base.
- The book rest measures: 25" Long.
- The eagle rotates 360 degrees.
- The oak plinth measures: 22 ½" Long x 19" Wide x 8 ½" Tall.
- The lectern is totally freestanding and sturdy.
- Circa 1930.
- The tips on each wing have had an old repair - please see photos.
- The embroidery on the plinth is showing wear with use.
- The eagle is the symbol used to depict John the Apostle, whose writing is said to most clearly witness the light and divinity of Christ.
- The eagle was believed to be the bird that flew highest in the sky and was therefore closest to heaven, and symbolised the carrying of the word of God to the four corners of the world.
